Dr. Asimakopoulos completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2019, a significant milestone in her journey toward becoming a leader in the nursing field. She is a board-certified Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), and her commitment to providing world-class care is evident through her work at UI Health’s Neuro ICU. For the past five years, she has been an integral part of a renowned team that upholds the highest clinical standards as part of a Comprehensive Stroke Center, where innovative and life-saving care is delivered every day.
A Leader in Action
In recognition of her leadership skills and dedication to the APP (Advanced Practice Provider) community, Dr. Asimakopoulos was promoted in 2022 to the position of Assistant Director of APP Practice for Neurosurgery at UI Health. In this role, she manages a team of 20 full-time employees (FTEs) across both inpatient and ambulatory settings, helping to guide her team toward clinical excellence and operational efficiency.
As a strong advocate for the APP profession, Dr. Asimakopoulos has been instrumental in fostering interprofessional collaboration and driving process improvements. Among her many achievements, she has played a key role in:
- Serving on the Spine Operations Quality Improvement (QI) committee
- Enhancing APP leadership structures in ambulatory settings
- Contributing to shared governance initiatives in collaboration with the unit’s advisory council
- Developing a formal APP leader onboarding orientation
- Optimizing the Brain Death protocol at UI Health
Dr. Asimakopoulos’ leadership has not gone unnoticed.
