We are pleased to welcome Pamela Chambers, DNP, EJD, MSN, CRNA, CPPS, CPCHE, FAANA, as the new author of The Law Behind the Issue, a recurring column in Nursing Voice.

The Law Behind the Issue will explore the legal and regulatory considerations connected to each issue’s quarterly theme. Dr. Chambers will examine topics relevant to nurses working across clinical practice, leadership, education, administration, and advanced practice. Her goal is to help readers better understand how law, regulation, professional responsibility, and risk intersect with everyday nursing practice.

Dr. Chambers brings a distinctive combination of nursing, advanced practice, legal, military, academic, and healthcare quality experience to the column. She has practiced nursing for 32 years and nurse anesthesia for 26 years. She earned her law degree in 2008 and has served as a health law consultant with expertise in health equity, medical negligence, risk mitigation, and provider practice improvement.

Her leadership experience includes two terms as the first elected member of the Board of Directors for the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists and service as the organization’s first board member of color. She also served as the inaugural president of the Counsel for Diversity in Healthcare.

Dr. Chambers completed an 18-year career in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Major in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Today, she serves as an Associate Professor in the Nurse Anesthesia program at Rosalind Franklin University.

Through The Law Behind the Issue, Dr. Chambers will bring a legal lens to the issues shaping nursing while keeping the discussion practical, relevant, and accessible to nurses across roles and settings.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Chambers to Nursing Voice. We look forward to the insight, perspective, and discussion her column will bring to our readers.
