For Theresa Frawley, nursing has always been about caring for others while never stopping the pursuit of learning. From participating in global health experiences as a nursing student to educating pediatric nurses and leading innovative professional development initiatives, her career has been guided by curiosity, compassion, and a commitment to helping others succeed. As a 2026 Illinois Nurses Foundation 40 Under 40 Awardee, Theresa continues to make a lasting impact by empowering nurses to grow, learn, and provide exceptional care for every child and family they serve.
A World of Learning
Theresa’s nursing journey began at Loyola University Chicago, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2014. During her education, she had the unique opportunity to participate in global health initiatives in France, Ghana, and England. These experiences broadened her perspective on healthcare, fostering a deep appreciation for holistic and spiritual care, cultural humility, and the importance of meaningful human connection.
She began her nursing career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a medical-surgical nurse before returning to Illinois in 2017 to pursue her passion for pediatric nursing at Advocate Children’s Hospital. Over the next eight years, she served as a pediatric bedside nurse, chemotherapy-trained nurse, preceptor, charge nurse, and contributor to numerous quality improvement initiatives, continuously expanding both her clinical expertise and leadership skills.
Turning Education into Inspiration
In 2025, Theresa earned her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Chamberlain University and transitioned into Nursing Professional Development. Today, she serves as an NPD Practitioner, where she is passionate about supporting nurses through education, evidence-based practice, and professional growth. She believes that investing in nurses ultimately leads to better care for every child and family they serve.
Known for her creativity, Theresa has developed engaging educational experiences that make learning memorable for her colleagues, especially those working the night shift. From themed training events to interactive simulations, she brings energy and enthusiasm to professional development, helping nurses build confidence while creating a culture of continuous learning.
Growing Together, Making a Difference
Theresa’s dedication to nursing extends beyond education. She proudly co-authored Advocate Children’s Hospital’s successful application for the Society of Pediatric Nursing, Nursing Excellence Award, helping showcase the outstanding work being done by her team. She believes that celebrating excellence and supporting one another are essential to advancing the nursing profession.
Outside of work, Theresa enjoys traveling, training for races, including the 2026 Chicago Marathon, and spending time with her dog, Forty. Whether mentoring nurses, developing innovative educational programs, or encouraging lifelong learning, she remains committed to helping others thrive and strengthening the future of pediatric nursing.
