INF 40 Under 40 Awardee: Stephanie Ward

Stephanie Ward’s nursing career was shaped by two powerful influences: her mother, a longtime cardiac nurse, and her own deep passion for learning and caring for others. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Iowa, Stephanie began her career in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Loyola University Medical Center. There, she worked alongside a team of nurses who demonstrated the strength, skill, and compassion it takes to change patients’ lives and uplift one another in the process. Inspired by their example, Stephanie pursued her Master of Science in Nursing from Loyola University Chicago and transitioned into her next chapter, advanced practice nursing.

Leading in Cardiology and Rare Disease Care

Amidst the pandemic, Stephanie stepped into her current role as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology at Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields. Over the past five years, she has embraced the challenges of the role, growing as both a provider and a nurse while taking on responsibilities as Lead Advanced Practice Provider. In this position, she also precepts new nurse practitioners and students, sharing her expertise and passion for cardiology. Stephanie’s greatest professional passion lies in cardiac amyloidosis, a rare and significantly underdiagnosed disease particularly prevalent on Chicago’s South Side, where she practices. Recognizing the need for awareness and early diagnosis, she founded a cardiac amyloidosis clinic, helping to diagnose, treat, and educate patients, providers, and the broader community.

Continuing to Learn, Teach, and Make a Difference

Stephanie remains committed to advancing care and education in cardiology, whether she’s mentoring the next generation of providers, speaking to community groups, or helping patients understand and manage complex heart conditions. “I look forward to continuing to learn, grow, and share my passion,” Stephanie says, “with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for every patient we serve.”
