INF 40 Under 40 Awardee: Gins Thachil
For Gins Varghese Thachil, nursing is more than a profession it’s a calling built on purpose, perseverance, and passion. His journey, which began in Karnataka, India, reflects resilience, hard work, and a vision to uplift both patients and the nursing profession across continents. Gins began his career with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing and quickly developed a strong foundation in medical surgical care. His early clinical experiences shaped a lifelong commitment to integrity driven service and leadership.
Advancing Education and Leadership in the U.S.
With a deep desire to grow and lead, Gins moved to the United States, pursuing advanced education to expand both his clinical expertise and leadership capacity. He earned his Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Valparaiso University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Health Systems Leadership from Loyola University Chicago. Each milestone reflected his dedication to building systems that empower nurses, improve care delivery, and elevate the profession.
Driving Impact Across Roles and Systems
Over his career, Gins has served as a bedside nurse, clinical instructor, nurse manager, educator, and innovator, leading initiatives that have:
- Reduced readmissions and sitter cases
- Enhanced stroke and patient education programs
- Improved safety and quality outcomes in high-acuity environments, including COVID-19 units
Through every role, Gins has remained focused on evidence-based leadership, compassionate mentorship, and sustainable improvements to healthcare systems.

What drives Gins most is the opportunity to uplift others mentoring future nurses, supporting teams through challenges, and advocating for underserved populations. His approach is rooted in empathy, foresight, and a steadfast belief in the power of nursing to not only heal but transform healthcare. “For me, nursing is not just about patient care,” Gins reflects. “It’s about building systems, empowering others, and leading with purpose so we can create lasting change.”
